Hydrometers are used in salt water and brackish water aquariums. They are used to read the specific gravity in saltwater tanks. The water conditions in the ocean are more constant than in rivers or lakes. Therefore, sea marine life are much more sensitive to changes in environmental conditions. The water density must be constantly controlled by means of a hydrometer.
